If you're looking for making it in the higher ranks Graphically, in my opinion in a RATE ME/Classification Thread, use only Real or realistic imagery. Use cartoons, comics, and anime for SOTW's, and Battles. But, use a combination of Realistic imagery, 3D intertwined (at random), and Original Artpieces that you've crafted, and/or Photography of your own making in your LPs and Sigs. That impresses the Raters and Reviewers more, and it appeals to them, and shows that you have more than just the basic Photomanipulative and Editting Skills in the use of the programs you use daily.
Stocks and Photographs are good starts for your works. It also helps to be different, and use whatever knowledge you can gain or that you possess in your works. If you look at my pieces, no one image looks the same, and they are quite radical, clean, tight, expressive, fully visualistic & energetic, and I randomly use realistic imagery. The only reason I included the Venom image, was because I wanted to show that I can make a cartoon image and combine it with realistic and "illusionary" elements of
surprise and intrigue. ;)
