The silhouettes don't work here would work in a vector piece. Try not to use abstract brushes for a bg they destroy depth & flow. I suggest following one of the tutorials here.

I didn't use any abstract brushes, it was a little bit of a grunge brush, and mostly pencil tool and vector brushes ;)
I still like the way this sig turned out

but I can never follow a tut, it just never works out for me

LOL, I don't like it. It looks novice. No lighting, bad text, looks like do the bg and load selectionof the renders and then delete.
