Pen Tool for Adobe Photoshop

Note: I got this from PR.

For those of you that use Adobe Photoshop or CS2 the following will help you to render faster and and have a better overall finished render.

First open your image in PS and select the pen tool from the toolbar. use the settings that are also highlighted ( i use those for best results ).

Now for the easy part... click on the pic to create a starting point.. move up a bit and select another point, click again. now the line will be straight even though the image is curved... easy solution... click at mid-point( half way between starting and the second point ... on the line ).. hold down Ctrl and hold the left mouse button on a POINT to drag the line to the desired location.

If you feel that the line is not matching up with the curve of the pic then you can select from the toolbar on the pen spot ... and select add anchor point. this will allow you to add points anywhere on the line to make corrections. remember that to move an anchor point you must ...hold down Ctrl and hold the left mouse button on a POINT to drag the line to the desired location

Now continue all the way around the pic to select out what you want to render... when you get to the starting point ( at the begining ) your pen tool will have a small circle near it to show that you can click to close the points and make your selection.

Now right click on the image and select from the menu... Make Selection is what you will choose from this menu.

Now you will have the next menu come up to make your selection... i prefer to use 0 for the feather rather than 1 ( but it's your choice you need to decide what will work best for you ) .... then select OK.
next you will notice that the line is dotted around your image ....

Very important part here ..... press the following buttons to invert your selection ( so you can remove the background ) press Ctrl + Shift + I
(make sure to press them only once ) then press Delete and then you'll have your render...

You can also zoom in on the image by pressing Ctrl and the =+ button ... to zoom out you use Ctrl and -_ button.

I hope this helps you to render faster and end up with a better overall finished product. it also helps with those pesky curves.... Smile if you have any questions please ask.

Remember to save the image as a .psd and a .png to back up your render.

If you want to cut out interior parts of the pic make your selections... one at a time and skip the Ctrl Shift I part and after the feather selection box just press delete and it will remove the selected area... i don't think i left anything out but if there are any questions feel free to ask. :0

i gave no permision for this to be used on other forums, nor was i asked. i would like to ask an admin to remove this post. if you require verification of who i am just PM me on the PR forums.

i have removed the pics to the tut in case you do not believe me. sharing knowledge is a great idea, unless you steal it without permission!

Stealing is not cool no matter what the form. Ripping a .psd, or stealing a tut. Just not okay. I can vouch for Hawk's authenticity. He's a fellow staffer with me. If you want to use someone's stuff, ASK.
